When using Audio Transcribe:
- Never commit API keys to version control - Use the built-in setup wizard to store keys securely
- Keep your API keys private - Don't share them publicly or in screenshots
- Use environment variables - The tool stores keys in your user profile directory, not in the project directory
- Review dependencies - We use well-maintained packages, but always review what you're installing
- Update regularly - Keep the tool updated to receive security patches
Audio Transcribe stores API keys in:
- Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\audio_transcribe\.env - Linux/Mac:
~/.audio_transcribe/.env
These files are:
- Stored in your user profile (not in the project directory)
- Not tracked by git (excluded via .gitignore)
- Only readable by your user account (on Unix systems)
If you suspect your API keys have been compromised:
- Revoke the keys immediately from the respective API provider
- Generate new keys
- Run
transcribe.exe setupto update your configuration
