Summary
This pull request is for adding a new settings module for managing Thunderbolt devices.
https://github.com/orgs/linuxmint/discussions/766
This settings module uses
boltd
over DBus to manage Thunderbolt devices. The settings module performs some dependency checks and displays messages when requirements aren't met. This settings module supports managing multiple devices. Each device will have its own settings section. The typical use case is the user will open this settings module, find their device they want to enable, and click "Authorize" to enable it for 1 time. After clicking "Authorize", they can optionally click "Trust" to remember the device. The user can click the "Details" toggle to view device details. The user can click "Forget" to forget the device, whether it is connected or not.
Rationale
Many PCs have Intel processors, with the higher end ones having at least 1 Thunderbolt port. Newer PCs are starting to have USB4 ports. Currently, Thunderbolt device management in Cinnamon is handled through the terminal using
boltctl
. This can be intimidating for new users.Adding this feature will improve the usability for Cinnamon for less-technical users and make Cinnamon feel more complete. Both GNOME and KDE have similar settings in their respective control centers.
