Welcome to the In-The-Footsteps wiki!

The app In The Footsteps: Trentino's Famous People aims to raise information on places of interest related to the Historical Characters of the Trentino Region.

The app doesn't only defines biographical and cultural elements of the character, but has the intent of provide a complete experience in the area with whom to get in touch, offering information on the best dining places and stay present throughout the Trentino Region.

The app consists of three main screens, logically connected to each other. The startup screen consists of a list containing all historical figures of Trentino, obtained from Dataset Historical Characters; to facilitate the search for the desired character, there is also a search bar. Each character in the list is an icon, representing the various categories of membership:

  • None, unknown category;
  • Church, ecclesiastical category;
  • Pen, writer category;
  • Art, artistic category;
  • Noble, nobility category;
  • Parliament, political category.

Just click on one of the characters in the list, you can access the second screen, containing a comprehensive description of the character selected; in this screen you can find, in addition to the name and category of membership, a button "View Map" which allows access to the third screen application. In this one, the goal is to geolocalize information contained in the description of each character displayed by a map. One of the fundamental aspects of this application is to combine elements of historical interest, related to the city in which the historical character lived, with the current territorial structure of these places. To achieve this idea, there are four buttons in the top of the screen, identified by four icons, which allow you to see in the following map information:

  • City, in which the historical figure lived / stayed;
  • POI (Points of Interest), obtained from the Dataset POI and Architectural and Artistic Heritage, identifying all buildings belonging to the artistic heritage of the city;
  • Restaurants, obtained from Dataset Restaurants, enriched with a rating from Yelp platform as well as provide additional information such as address, phone, times etc .;
  • Hotel, obtained entirely from the Yelp platform, with the same characteristics described previously for restaurants.

By clicking on each icon, you can see in the map markers relative to your search; clicking on each marker, you can view the information about the selected entity. Since each marker, you can take advantage of the Geolocation provided by Google Maps to calculate the route to the marker selected from its position.
