Will synapse-s3-storage-provider consider media_retention?

In the documentation we have the media_retention option which determines that media will be purged if it has not been accessed in a given amount of time.

Will this be considered by this s3 storage provider? Will the respective purge request be honored and the
file be deleted/removed from the s3 storage?

I saw your comments in the PR but it seems the PR was abandoned by the author. Do you happen to have any plans introducing this functionality to the module?

I'm using Matrix as a hobby project with my friends and I'm slightly concerned about the storage costs when no retention is enabled.

I'm happy to clean up and extend original author's PR by applying the changes you suggested if there are no plans to independently introduce this functionality.

@michalborek I'm not aware of any plans on Element's side to continue that PR, so by all means feel free to open a new PR with the review incorporated. Then we can review and merge it. Thanks!

Thanks a lot @anoadragon453. I think we need to wait for: element-hq/synapse#19665, since based on what I see, nothing would call trigger the storage provider deletion.

I started drafting a similar change in synapse and I realised there's a PR for this. Once it's done I can prepare the PR here.
