The Messenger Randomizer v1.0 Release
Official Release!!!
This is the official release of the randomizer. For any info or assistance needed in setting up the randomizer, please refer to the README and Wiki.
There is not much change from the beta to release. Multiworld code use to be in this mod's code but was moved into its own client to allow for simplicity in maintaining each project. If you are looking to play Multiworld with The Messenger Randomizer, head over to the The Messenger Randomizer AP Mod Repo to get what you need.
The Messenger Randomizer v0.4.3-beta Release
This release, generously provided by @alwaysintreble, integrates Archipelago code to allow for the mod to work in the AP Multiworld system. It was merged into the original mod so both should be downloadable from here. Documentation on the AP integration is documented in this project.

The Messenger Randomizer v0.4.2-beta Release
Requires Courier v0.7 or later
This release adds the functionality to generate the necessary rando save file so players will not have to manually configure it anymore.
With this the randomizer enters its Beta phase where we'll want to do some testing and ensure the rando has everything it needs to an MVP release. In its current state it is expected to be beatable and fully playable.
Save File Generation
Previously players had to download the rando save file and replace their own save file with it. After 3 seeds the player would have to perform this action again to get a fresh save. That was annoying so I finally got something built in to handle it for us. The new mod option in the main menu, "Reset Randomizer File Slot", will immediately replace your current save with a fresh rando save file ready for you to play.
PLEASE NOTE THAT BY PERFORMING THIS NEW FUNCTION THAT YOUR PREVIOUS SAVE FILE WILL IMMEDIATELY BE OVERWRITTEN. IF YOU WISH TO HOLD ON TO YOUR SAVE FILE MAKE SURE TO BACK IT UP BEFORE RUNNING THE NEW FUNCTION.
The Messenger Randomizer v0.4.1-alpha Release
The update contains a fix for the dialog replacements so advanced seeds can have the replacements as well.
Advanced Dialog Fixes
The dialog replacements in v0.4.0 worked but didn't support advanced seeds and the trash items it introduced. This release will fix that.
Seed number in Mod Options window
A nice update I snuck in there was to add the seed number of the current seed you are playing to the mod options window. Now people can confirm that the seed number they are playing is indeed the one they generated and can share that number with whoever so they can generate that mapping as well.
Mapping logic updates
The following changes were made to the advanced seed placement logic.
- Howling Grotto Seal - Windy Saws and Balls
- Updated to require wingsuit0
- Howling Grotto Seal - Crushing Pits
- Updated to require wingsuit and rope dart
Glide Attack unlocked for purchase at start
It was annoying to have to go to the wingsuit location just to be able to buy the glide attack...so now its always unlocked for purchase.
The Messenger Randomizer v0.4.0-alpha Release
Advanced seed logic is here!
It was quite the ride and a lot has happened since the last release, but it has finally happened. We have finally added advanced seeds to the randomizer, significantly opening up ways to play the game.
Seed generation has moved
You may find when you boot up the new rando version that there is no way to create new seeds anymore. That is because this release actually removed that functionality from the game. Creating seeds is a new process that is run through a public site, The Messenger Randomizer Seed Generator site. Information on that site can be found on it's project page.
Dialog Replacement
@kriogenic and @Monkey103 helped out a lot getting the dialog mapping and replacement code started. For basic seeds it's pretty much up and running now. Some updates will need to be made to support this functionality for advanced seeds, so it is mostly turned off on those seeds for now.

The Messenger Randomizer v0.3.0-alpha Release
The Messenger Randomizer Logic System is here!!!
It took a while but after a lot of Coding and Crying™ I was able to get an initial version of the randomizer's logic system in place. With this I have added a new seed generation button that will generate a Basic seed that is certain to be beatable without the use of OoB and Major Glitches/Strats(i.e. Leashing). The old generation system is still in place, though old seeds will not generate the same mappings as before.

- If you haven't already, make sure you update to this version of Courier!
- Added Seed Types:
- There are now 'Basic' seeds and 'No Logic' seeds. More information on them and other functionality can be found in the mod wiki.
As always, this mod is a work in progress. This specific change was an overhaul of many of the underlying systems. If there are any issues when playing the randomizer, please reach out on the Mod Discord (details in the Contact Us section of the wiki).
The Messenger Randomizer v0.2.3-alpha Release
Added new functionality for the randomizer:
- Mod supported on Courier 0.6.4-alpha
- If you haven't already, make sure you update to this version of Courier!
- Added Windmill Shuriken to the mix!
- You asked for it? You got it! I have added Windmill Shuriken into the list of items you can find on your rando adventures!
- For now the Windmill Shuriken chest itself does nothing special, just lets you switch between shurikens like is use to if you (for some reason) go get all the seals.
- "But Minous, how do I switch without the chest" I hear you ask? Check the wiki!
- Climbing Claws check is LIVE
- In order to support this I also turned on the Climbing Claws check. There is an item there now so...get it. Or not, whatever.
- Teleport to Ninja Village function added!
- Nobody likes doing old man chain, running all the way back to Ninja Village multiple times is lame. So we sped that up! More info in the wiki!
- Added Rando mod version number to the mod options
- This will give us more insight into what version of the randomizer you have installed. Useful for troubleshooting and for races to make sure everyone is on the same version.
- Also a bug fix!
- Added validations for teleporting - this means that you can no longer use the teleport functions while in the HQ or a Shop. You shouldn't have been already but if you did then weird things happened...so I helped a bit with that.
The Messenger Randomizer v0.2.2-alpha Hotfix
Hotfix Release Notes:
The Messenger Randomizer v0.2.2 hotfix is available now! This hotfix should have fixed the remaining item triggers so now everything SHOULD behave as expected. No checks should be locked out due to triggers not working. Please let me know if I missed something!
Along with trigger fixes, I went ahead and re-added the Candle into the randomizer! That means the Old Man quest chain is now a valid check. For now, the Old Man will still give you the Tea Seed and the planting of it will still give you the Tea Leaves. However, turning in the leaves may now give you an item you need. And before you ask, yes the Candle is a useless item that you could potentially find. Huehuehuehue...
The Messenger Randomizer v0.2.1-alpha Hotfix
This hotfix corrected issues with some checks not working based on items you already picked up. This included:
- Checks with inputs
- Necro
This also fixes that weird cutscene teleport that happens when you enter catacombs for the first time from Bamboo Creek. It makes the cutscene look a little silly but it works.
The Messenger Randomizer v0.2-alpha
RELEASE NOTES:
- Added mod metadata toml file, mod supported on Courier 0.6-alpha
- Phantom boss got a new rule. If you dont have all the notes, you cant damage him.
- This is to help maintain the spirit of randomizer. This rule will be adjusted as development continues.
- Added a new in game mod option to Teleport To HQ!
- A highly requested feature and something I kind of wish existed in the vanilla game sometimes. Now there is a button you can press that will teleport Ninja directly back to HQ so you can carry on with randomizer nonsense.
- Please do not try to teleport during Boss fights/cutscenes or while already in the HQ or a shop. It won't end well for you I promise(I'll try to fix this in some way later).
- Added new main menu mod option to set seed for a file save
- Yes! No more messing with Mod Option save files like a pleb. Do it in-game like a champ!
A lot of the documentation for the mod has been moved to a wiki page. You can now refer there for information. The README will still contain the installation procedures for now.
