BeanBand

Important
Due to lack of ressources as well as some excellent competition, this project is archived until further notice. If you are interest in picking it up again, please contact the creator.

The BeanBand project aims to create a high-quality music accompaniment software package. The current focus is to provide a stable architecture that focuses primarily on the musical quality of the generated playbacks.

Description

Accompaniment or playback generation is the process of taking a series of chord symbols and other performance-related information, a so-called "leadsheet", and trying to automatically create a multi-instrument playback track sounding similar to what a real band would play if faced with such a leadsheet, excluding the actual solo performer. This type of software is typically used by singers and other soloing instrumentalists who want to practice songs together with accompaniment, without the availability of other musicians.

BeanBand aims to create yet another playback generation software package as an open-source project. Allthough there are some solutions already available, even a few FLOSS alternatives, the market is far from being saturated. In contrast to other solutions we want to put as much "musical intelligence" as possible into the system. That means that we want the user to enter as little information as possible, with the system trying to extrapolate all necessary information from a very minimalistic leadsheet, and produce high musical quality nevertheless. As an example, we want to try the software to automatically analyze where musical breaks should occur, without the user needing to explicitly specify them.

Installation and Usage

In this early project stage we do not provide binary builds. Please refer to the contribution guidelines on how to install and run the source code.

Contributing

As a new project we appreciate all contributions to help us evolve our system. Be aware however that the maintainer has defined a very strict set of priorities for the near future, and based on those has already made some very fundamental design decisions. Be sure you carefully read through the guidelines detailed in the CONTRIBUTING file, and that you support, or at least can live with, the conceptual framework defined there. After all, we want you to enjoy contributing to BeanBand!
