Due to being one of the most represented types of shuttles and the type with the greatest initial draw to new and returning players the barrier for entry for a new mining-salvage craft is very high. I would like to see something truly novel, creative or functional for inclusion in this specific cohort. The Scaw has some elements that I am viewing with a measure of skepticism. Initially I thought this was a PR with a remix of the Express, in fact at first glance I thought it -was- the Express. Which was fairly confusing in its own right and seemed an odd design choice for a salvage / mining craft. One reason why solars are not generally employed on mining shuttles is due to those shuttles being absolutely loaded down with fuel. The barge has some for a mixture of vibes and complimenting the dual role of being a cargo runner. In this case you’re giving over a lot of shuttle mass to a system that’s bringing a fairly negligible return. However for me the most critical design point is one of layout and how that impacts the shuttle’s role and ability to access that role. The approach employed by the Scaw has resulted in a shuttle that is VERY hallway orientated. As you can see from the tiling work. With a minimalist small mining shuttle you can generally get by without much additional floor space. Everything is running out of a few ore boxes after all. With a shuttle that’s also leaning into the salvage side, which is obviously a goal here, you are verging into needing additional floor space to put stuff. The actual design of this shuttle allows for very little placement of things without blocking a path. Either a hall, or a machine, or a door. To skyline: Here you can see the paths that people are meant to use to traverse areas. Ideally this is a space that people can navigate without too much obstacle. Or spaces where people might want to be in order to interact with machines. It’s a lot of shuttle with a very spare amount of space available to actually interact with things. I goofed up and didn't capture a good screenshot but I filled the space -very- quickly. This is a shuttle where the design has resulted in a fairly minimum of space available that really works against it. This point is especially skylined when compared to a shuttle such as the Chisel, which would be the vessel against which it would be competing from a price point. The halls are wider and provide support for moving materials and there's a generous staging ground for materials that doesn't overlap in any overwhelming way with access point for machines, portals into adjacent spaces or machine access. I recognize that part of the design goal was the bee decal work and that motif. If "clean bee" is an interesting selling point for you that is a primary motivator I might consider gently steering your curiosity towards a civilian janitorial craft. A non staff janitor ship is something people have been asking for and that's one that would go very well with solar support I feel. |

About the PR
a new Solar Salvager has entered the competition! not that there was a solar salvager competition.... only the barge counts as a solar salvager.
as such i went ahead and added the CBC Scow! a small light salvage shuttle with enough solar power to run off it alone if you face your solars towards the sun and remember to turn off your engines
Why / Balance
only 4 ships use solars, one of which is the express only available to mailmen, i'd like more ships to use solars!
Technical details
all the nessecary file changes to add a ship, it's guidebook entry, an illustration, and a Company Poster
How to test
spawn at FO
read the CBC Scow's Guidebook, see illustration and Company logo!
buy ship
fly it, mine an asteroid or two
salage a wreck or two
enjoy the lack of money wasted on fuel!!!
