I'm a biomedical data scientist and solutions engineer working at the intersection of biology, software, and AI. I lead and support collaborative initiatives that drive scientific discovery by making data AI-ready and creating open, scalable and streamlined research infrastructure.
More recently, I've been building AI-enabled workflows for biotech. from target discovery to clinical-trial design and scientific data engineering.
- 🧬 Computational biology & biomedical data science
- 🤖 Applied AI and agentic scientific workflows
- 🛠️ Rapid prototyping of research software
Data Engineering: Python · SQL · AWS · ETL/Pipelines · Docker
Software Engineering: Git · GitHub Actions · CI/CD · Linux · REST APIs · Testing
Neuroimaging: FSL · FreeSurfer · SPM · ANTsPy · MONAI
Bioinformatics: DESeq2, Seurat, Nextflow
Data Science: Python · R · pandas · NumPy · scikit-learn · Statistical Modeling
Some of my efforts include:
- contributing to the The Turing Way
- creating mini resources for reproducible computational science for psyschology researchers
- Teaching coding and reproducible software best practices via The Carpentries in academic (Howard U, UCSD, Stanford), government (CDC), and industry settings (Genentech).
🧠 My PhD research combined computational techniques and domain knowledge in clinical neuroscience and psychology to understand factors that contribute to brain aging in bipolar disorder.
💻 I have work experience in product management, UX research, and business development in health tech startups in 🇲🇾🇵🇭 taking an amorphous idea from 0 to 1 is an intrinsically rewarding process to me.
🌐 I love building community; building out Nucleate’s Global Life Sciences program to faciliate connections between Nucleate chapters across the world and co-founding TechBio Transformers reinforced my belief that accelerating innovation means empowering the people behind it.
📚 I received my PhD from the Cognitive Science department of the University of California San Diego in 2025.
🙌 I enjoy learning about “ancestral movement” approaches to physical activity, and practicing slow-travel —immersing myself in a single location for an extended time to fully experience the culture.
✨ My name in Mandarin is 慧欣 (Hui Xin) — indeed there is a space between my first name.
A few questions that serve as my north star:
- How can we leverage computational techniques and power to advance biomarker discovery and personalized medicine?
- How can we incentivize best practices for reproducibility and replicability (e.g., data sharing, detailed methods section, and publishing negative data)?
- How can we translate science into real-world impact (i.e. what does it take to bring scientific innovation to market responsibly and effectively)?
I value community, mentorship, curiosity and purpose-aligned leadership over linear career paths or titles. I am excited by who I get to learn from and build with.
