Peakaboo 6.1.1

15 Mar 16:31

Choose a tag to compare

We're pleased to announce the release of Peakaboo 6.1.1. This is a bugfix release.

Key Fixes:

  • Windows Session Loading: Fixed a bug on Windows which caused Peakaboo to show an error when loading a session with an associated data set.
  • OptimizingCurveFitter: Fixed a bug where the Optimizing curve fitter would generate an error when trying to fit elements which are entirely outside the energy range of the data set.
  • BinningMapFilter: Fix a bug where the binning map filter generates an error on a 1D data set, with this fix it will become a silent no-op. This behaviour may change in later releases.

We wish to thank users who submitted crash reports and logs to help identify these issues.

We're pleased to announce the release of Peakaboo 6.1.

Key Features

  • Friendlier Automatic Fitting – Fittings are now proposed with a chance to review before finalizing.
  • Improved Guided Fitting - Guided fitting now snaps to strong peaks more aggressively and allows narrowing the fitting suggestions by shell.
  • More Map Colour Scales – Multiple colour scales are now available for mapping. The default colour scale has changed from Rainbow to Gouldian (a perceptually accurate scale). The ratio map colour scale has changed slightly, but all other existing colour scales are present and unchanged.
  • Improved Plugin UI – The plugins user interface has been streamlined for easier plugin discovery and management.
  • Faster Maps & Quickmaps - Better concurrent access for highly multi-core systems and faster, smaller internal storage of spectra (inspired by QOI)
  • Better Drag and Drop Support - Better support for opening files by dragging them from a web browser. Additional bugfixes for MacOS.
  • Improved Zoom Controls - More natural zoom controls allows easier zooming and panning with mouse.

Plugin Compatibility

Peakaboo 6.1 maintains compatibility with all plugins from Peakaboo 6. You can now find plugins directly in Peakaboo's plugin manager.

Choose a tag to compare

We're pleased to announce the release of Peakaboo 6! This is a major new release of Peakaboo.

Notable Changes

Peakaboo 6 contains too many chages to list them all, but the most notable changes are:

  • Performance improvements, especially to loading datasets and generating maps.
  • Better plot tickmarks and gridlines, especially for logarithmic view.
  • Options to configure Peakaboo's performance and memory use.
  • Introduced Peakaboo's session file format v2. Support for v1 still included.
  • Many user interface improvements, including an experimental dark mode.

Plugins

Peakaboo 6 makes changes to the plugin model which will require plugins built for v6. Notably Peakaboo now has built-in support for reading HDF5 files (although individual plugins may still provide a better experience). All first-party plugins are available here.

Choose a tag to compare

Peakaboo 5.5 is an incremental release in the Peakaboo 5 series.

Notable Changes

Along with bug fixes and general improvements, Peakaboo 5.5 brings the following notable new features:

  • Peakaboo has moved to a new tool for creating the installer. You may have to remove or uninstall an older version of Peakaboo manually. Please report any issues with the new installation process.
  • A new 'Getting Started' walk-through for first time users introduces the main concepts of Peakaboo
  • Updated to a new major version of xraylib
  • Removed largely unused and redundant support for generating PDF output
  • Improved support for reading unknown HDF5 files, an increasingly common container format (see plugins)

Plugins

Peakaboo 5.5 will generally work with plugins from Peakaboo 5.4. If any issues arise, it's always a good idea to check for updates. All first-party plugins are available here.

Peakaboo 5.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

Peakaboo 5.4 is an incremental release in the Peakaboo 5 series.

Notable Changes

Along with bug fixes and general improvements, Peakaboo 5.4 brings the following notable new features:

  • Better Map Selection Tools The map selection tools now allow drawing ellipses and arbitrary shapes. The UI also does a better job of making all of the selection options discoverable.
  • Spectrum Background Filter A new filter allows loading a spectrum from a CSV/plaintext file to supply the background removal curve. If more than one spectrum is present in the file, the average is used.
  • Compton Scatter Filter A new filter allows removal of Compton scattering noise and the tail signal around it. The filter removes all signal between the specified start and end ranges. It also removes an exponential tail curve on either side, the length of which is user specified.
  • Sharpen Map Filter A new map filter allows sharpening map images. This is especially useful as a way to compensate when aggressive smoothing filters are required to remove large amounts of noise.
  • Deskew Map Filter Data sets with physically skewed sample rows can be corrected with a new map filter which corrects the skew based on a user-specified skew angle.
  • Drag-and-Drop Data Sets Peakaboo can now open data sets by dragging and dropping a link from a website onto the plot area. The same feature also allows drag-and-drop plugin installation from the Plugins dialog.

Plugins

Peakaboo 5.4 will generally work with plugins from Peakaboo 5.3. If any issues arise, it's always a good idea to check for updates. All first-party plugins are available here.

Peakaboo 5.3.0

20 Jun 18:41

Choose a tag to compare

Peakaboo 5.3 is an incremental release in the Peakaboo 5 series.

Notable Changes

Along with bug fixes and general improvements, Peakaboo 5.3 brings the following notable new features:

  • Map Filters Map data can now be filtered in the same way that plot data can. This takes the place of several mapping features such as map interpolation. Map settings such as filters or map dimensions are persisted when closing a map window and restored when opening another.
  • Quick Maps A Quick Map is a very fast map of a specific channel which bypasses filters and fittings. This can be useful for identifying unknown peaks or quickly cropping a data set. Generate a Quick Map by right-clicking on the plot.
  • Correlation Map A new map mode is now available which will create a scatter map from two opposing intensity-frequency histograms. This is useful for showing correlation between two different (sets of) elements.
  • Performance Improvements A number of features have seen noticeable performance improvements, such as displaying maps, detecting map dimensions, and reading/writing CSV data sets.
  • Peak Width Adjustments A bug was corrected which slightly altered peak widths for silicon detectors. While changes in fittings will in most cases be minimal, care should be taken when comparing fittings from Peakaboo 5.3 with fittings from previous versions.

Plugins

Peakaboo 5.3 introduces some changes to Peakaboo's code naming scheme which will generally require downloading updated plugins. All first-party plugins are available here.

Choose a tag to compare

Peakaboo 5.2 is an incremental release in the Peakaboo 5 series. Along with bug fixes and general improvements, it brings the following notable new features:

  • Map Colours Maps now feature more vibrant colours to make map data easier to read and better looking.
  • Bulk Map Export Maps for individual fittings can now be exported in bulk into a zip archive.
  • Map Y-axis flip By default, maps are now displayed with the origin point in the bottom right corner, rather than the top right. There is an option to revert to the older behaviour.
  • Overlay low-end filter Overlay maps can now filter out the lower-end signal in order to produce clearer maps showing high concentrations of specific elements.

Peakaboo 5.2 introduces some changes to the plugin system which will generally require downloading updated plugins. All first-party plugins are available here.

Builds are provided for Red Hat & CentOS Linux (rpm), Debian & Ubuntu Linux (deb), Macintosh (dmg), and Windows (exe). A user manual is also available for download.

Peakaboo 5.1.0

29 Aug 19:31

Choose a tag to compare

Peakaboo 5.1 is an incremental release in the Peakaboo 5 series. Along with bug fixes and general improvements, it brings the following new features:

  • Annotations Users can now annotate fittings with short notes which will be displayed in the plot.
  • Remember Data Set Loading a saved session will now offer to automatically open the associated data set.
  • Independent Spectrum Scaling Spectra can now (optionally) be scaled independently, allowing better plotting of highly variable data sets.
  • Better Plugin Management Plugins can be added or removed directly from Peakaboo's plugin manager, and no longer requires a restart of Peakaboo to take effect.

Because this release is part of the Peakaboo 5 series, plugins from older Peakaboo 5 releases will generally continue to work. If any issues arise, it's always a good idea to check for updates. All first-party plugins are available here.

Builds are provided for Red Hat & CentOS Linux (rpm), Debian & Ubuntu Linux (deb), Macintosh (dmg), and Windows (exe). A user manual is also available for download.
