Process is:

• Check that a new version of the software was indeed released.
• Mark for merge.

We can not feasibly check every new release of every project we depend on in detail, so we have to (at least partially) trust the projects we depend on and also rennovate to do the right thing. Since these are very common tools used by a multitude of projects, we additionally assume that if a release is malicious we would hear about it from common tech news outlets. In recent history compromises such as xz or ultralytics made it to the media pretty quickly.
