Model Governance: Model Cards and Release Control — Guardrails and Fix Patterns

🧭 Quick Return to Map

You are in a sub-page of Governance.
To reorient, go back here:

Think of this page as a desk within a ward.
If you need the full triage and all prescriptions, return to the Emergency Room lobby.

A governance fix page for model documentation, release approvals, and lifecycle stability.
Use this page when your pipeline suffers from undocumented models, ambiguous versions, or uncontrolled release practices.

When to use this page

  • No model card exists or is incomplete.
  • Release versions drift without recorded owner or changelog.
  • Fine-tuned variants override baseline without lineage.
  • Models are deployed with no external alignment (license, ethics, bias review).
  • No rollback path or immutable artifact storage exists.

Acceptance targets

  • Every model has a published model card ≥ 95% coverage (architecture, data, evals, risks).
  • ΔS(question, retrieved) ≤ 0.45 for governed models (stable reasoning layer).
  • λ_observe remains convergent across 3 paraphrases and 2 seeds.
  • Each release has owner, approval sign-off, risk register entry, and expiry date.
  • Rollback from failed release achievable in < 5 minutes.

Typical breakpoints and WFGY fix

Minimal governance checklist

  1. Immutable model card published before deploy (architecture, data, evals, known risks).
  2. Release sign-off requires at least one technical and one governance approval.
  3. Risk register entry logged with waiver expiry date.
  4. Audit trail: owner, timestamp, hashes, and changelog must be immutable.
  5. Rollback plan validated in live drills.
  6. Periodic reviews (bias, ethics, dataset licenses) every quarter.
