How do I send a message to a contributor?

To send a message to a contributor directly, rather than through a pull request, you can open a new issue and then address it to them by using the "@username" syntax. This will open a new issues and send an email to the user’s registered email account.

How do I find the original person who contributed a file?

Navigate to the file and click the "History" button. The first entry will show you the GitHub user who made the contribution.
