Well, it was never merged, but I think @hannes14 needs to decide if this still makes sense: There was a sequential modular std implementation aded to Singular in the meantime to solve other related problems.

Nowadays LibModstd.modStd uses by default a sequential approach (without "fork").
Using more process can be set by the environment variable SINGULAR_CPUS.
