Since I already started with some refactoring as requested by @vshcherb in #1040 , I just finished that and provide it in case you are still interested to merge it.
Again, I tested it with many scenarios and it seems to still work as intended. By the way: is there a place to add test data for automated tests? That'd be easier than manually generating multiple maps, checking them with the inspector and/or testing them in the app on the phone.
