Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Not necessarily a problem, but nice to have feature. When we capture a photo and crop it to the final version, we may export the result and delete the original entry from the app. However, it can be convenient to retain documents within the app, such as a 50‑page file. After editing all 50 pages and keeping them in the app, the app stores both the original image and the processed version, which duplicates data and consumes extra space. It would be helpful to add an option that automatically deletes the original image after a set period, thereby saving storage.

When would you want that to happen? right after image import. (after you first cropped it)?

First of all, thank you for continuing to work on this project and for putting in the effort to keep the app actively maintained and improving.

Regarding this feature, I think it would be nice to have both a global setting and an optional per-document/folder setting.

For the global setting, the user could choose how long the original image should be retained after cropping/processing, for example, from a few hours up to 15 or 30 days, or perhaps even a custom number of days. The per-document/folder setting could then override the global setting when needed.

I don't think deleting the original immediately after cropping would be ideal. For example, if someone crops a document and the final result isn't what they expected, they may want to go back and crop it again. If the original is deleted immediately and the crop was a mistake, they would have to capture the document again, which could be quite inconvenient.

So I think having a retention period would be a safer approach. Something like:

• Global setting: Keep the original for X hours/days
• Per-document/folder setting: Follow the global setting or specify a different retention period
• Possible options: 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 15 days, 30 days, or custom
• Optional: "Keep indefinitely" for users who don't want automatic deletion

This would give users a good balance between saving storage and having a safety window in case they need to redo the crop or recover the original.

Just my thoughts on how I would personally prefer this feature to work. Thanks again for the continued work on the project!

@iGaneshKumar i lilke the idea. The one thing bothering me is the time thing. It would mean having something running in the background and things happening magically sometimes where you dont expect that.
I would really much prefer OSS DocumentScanner stays out of those sort of behaviors.

So it could be:

• global settings: remove once document is created , pages added
• per document(s) menu to do it "manually
