Request for Documentation on OTP Authentication Integration

Thank you for considering and working on OTP authentication—it's an exciting and much-needed feature!

I'm currently implementing login/signup functionality using WhatsApp OTP in my Payload app. I recently came across the related repository and was glad to see progress on this feature. However, I couldn't find any documentation or setup instructions for integrating it into an existing Payload project.

Could you please provide some guidance, examples, or references on how to use this feature?

As I understood, this plugin is mostly an example of the implementation, not a full reusable plugin, because the OTP logic there, as I see, is hardcoded to work with email only, looking at this:

So, to extend it to work with WhatsApp, the only way for now is to fork it and customize. I'm doing the same for Telegram and SMS for my project, and had to just copy-paste some functions from this plugin, instead of reusing it as is.

But actually, when we implement a custom authentication, we usually need only the "do log in for this user" API function, which is missing in the current Payload API, and the rest of the logic is very custom, which is hard to cover via a reusable plugin.

So, having it, we can simplify the task with custom auth a lot, so I posted a feature request to implement this: payloadcms/payload#16248 - let's upvote and wait for some progress there!
