How to split a section
Let's assume we have a fairly large section that should be split up to provide a better overview of the plot. We do this in the manuscript document using LibreOffice Writer.
First, we split the section at a point where the flow of reading should not be interrupted. This means we create a new section that is appended to the existing one. To do this, we simply insert a fourth-level heading.

After reimport to novelibre, we see the new section in the project tree. Note the ticked Append to previous section checkbox in the new section's properties. The Status bar informs us that the manuscript document has been auto-deleted upon import. This is unavoidable because the document structure has changed during import, which in any case requires a newly exported manuscript for further editing.

Now we would like to split up the new section again. We export the document and see the section break we created in the previous Writer session.

The next section, which we create by splitting, should be indicated by a normal section divider. To do this, we insert a third-level heading.

Once again, we import the manuscript into novelibre, and once again a section is created and the source document is discarded. So we export the project with the new section into a fresh manuscript, and see the new section divider.

Note
As pointed out in the user guide, you can use the same technique to create new sections as you write your story. Basically, there is no need to import the manuscript with novelibre each time you inserted a third or fourth level heading. Just keep the flow and create as many new sections as you like in your Writer session.
