Gamemodes

Gamemodes in Half-Life: Cross Product Multiplayer are a feature inherited from AG under a system originally written by Martin Webrant in Aura. Gamemodes use a unique CFG file within the gamemodes folder in the game files. Each CFG file contains commands to be executed by the server which make up the settings of that gamemode.

By using this system, developers and casual tinkers can create gamemodes without having to modify the actual C++ code of the game. In order to use special rules and mechanics that can't be defined by console commands, some gamemodes have their own gametype, which are defined within the code of the game and can't be changed by players.

To play on one of these gamemodes, simply type its CFG name into the Gamemode entry box in the Create Server settings or in the console. Additionally, the Command Menu in-game (forward-slash key by default) also provides a list of gamemodes you can choose from.
