Cleaned up and updated the dependencies to the level that the plugin still works with Java 8. I also migrated to Jakarta JAXB.
I marked this project to require at least maven 3.6.3 (like most maven 3.x plugins). I have verified this locally that it works with maven 3.6.3 running on Java 8.
