The Critter Watcher is a program that helps detect the presence of small animals through images. This detection can help pet owners to make sure their pets are inside when a critter is present to prevent their pets from running off.
The algorithm runs on Resnet-19, a machine learning framwoek from Pytorch. Specifically, it uses imagenet to classify images, having over 1000 objects that it can classify an image as. If the image that user uploads is detected as a type of squirrel, the user recieves a message alerting them that a squirrel has been spotted.
- Jetson Nano
- USB to MicroUSB cable
- USBC power supply
- ethernet cable or wifi connector
- Visual Studio Code
- Log into your Nano through SSH on VS Code. Make sure you have your Nano connected to power, microUSB port connected to the computer USB, and the wifi Cable connected.
- From Github, download the critter-watcher folder and upload it into the Nvidia folder on VS Code.
- In the critter-watch.py folder, upload any jpg file.
- Create a new terminal and type "python3 squirrel-watch.py (image_file_name_here)" and press enter. You will be prompted if either a squirrel, finch, jay, robin, or bunny is detected. Otherwise, there will be no unecessary notifcation. Note: You are able to do classify many images through the terminal separately.
