Maintenance and documentation: contribution

As I described before in this Discourse post, the original Cartographer library does not seem maintained and documented well. Could I ask the maintainers of this package: do you know if it is possible to connect with the original maintainers of the Cartographer project to suggest a contribution and help?

The only thing I can suggest is to open issues on https://github.com/cartographer-project/cartographer_ros to try and get attention.
