Why is the name of the project called AVRFID, well thats simple because it is meant to run on an ATMEGA328 which is a AVR class micro controller and the program that it runs is an RFID detector program. RFID is sometimes pronounced or spelled arphid so from that we get AVRFID (a-ver-fid) or however you want to pronounce it
