Module 1A: ASCAP Data (an Introduction to Data Cleaning and Normalization)
In this module, we'll be getting a feel for working within the Refine interface. We'll do this by acquiring the songwriting data of Jerry Garcia from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
Before we can start, you'll need to download the data yourself. (See the README for more information why.) Head over to ASCAP's ACE Repertory Search. Under 'Writers', search for our old pal Jerry: garcia jerome j

Clicking on Jerry's name will bring you to his ASCAP repertory of 220 cataloged songs. Each song is a record with pieces of metadata attached. A button in the top righthand corner will allow us to download all records -- click it.

ASCAP will ask you for a name, an email, and a reason why you want this data. Fill in your contact information and put down the reason as "Educational purposes." Momentarily, you will receive an email with the data attached as a comma-separated values (CSV) file.
