I stand corrected. Maybe because I rarely see them for technical documentation.

I guess that’s because 1. it’s hard to type on Windows and 2. people often learn to type in word processors that autocorrect if you use typewriter quotes.

I personally think there should be a markdown formatter that converts stuff into typographically correct quotes/apostrophes instead of relying on doing that when converting from Markdown to HTML, as autoconversion can make errors (which can be fixed in the source more easily than working around broken conversion)
