As discussed here, the units "tbsp" and "tsp" and their aliases often refer to the US customary unit in many recipes, even in those which use metric units for ingredient weights. It's further confusing because standard baking units like "cups" do not get converted to even numbers of tablespoons and teaspoons in the current implementation. This PR proposes switching the syntax such that the un-prefixed "tablespoon" and "teaspoon" refer to the US customary units while "metric_tablespoon" and "metric_teaspoon" (and their aliases) refer to the metric units:

  • tbsp -> metric_tbsp
  • tablespoon -> metric_tablespoon
  • tablespoons -> metric_tablespoons
  • tsp -> metric_tsp
  • teaspoon -> metric_teaspoon
  • teaspoons -> metric_teaspoons
  • US_tbsp -> tbsp
  • US_tablespoon -> tablespoon
  • US_tablespoons -> tablespoons
  • US_tsp -> tsp
  • US_teaspoon -> teaspoon
  • US_teaspoons -> teaspoons
