Bug: debug mode cannot be used with non-local execution

I think this is likely a bug? I don't see why I can't run `self.logger.debug`:

> Error: debug mode cannot be used with non-local execution

@johanneskoester you mentioned it was fixed, but I pulled latest from all the repos and it's still triggering so I'm opening the issue. I'll use self.logger.info for now!
