We had an expert take a look at this, and it sounds like it's mostly correct, but leaves an incomplete picture. Since the total payout varies over time, PT would be at a different state from P1 and P0. It would be more accurate to consider these three variables in terms of Rshares instead of payouts. Can you please review and provide an update?


Steem rewards users who are among the first to find and identify new content. Also, this reward is related to the value of the vote. While the vote has more value the rewards for the curator will be greater.

Taking $RS_0$ as the shares of the post before voting, and $RS_1$ as the shares of the post after voting, the weight of the curation is as following:

$$w = \sqrt{RS_1} - \sqrt{RS_0}$$

This weight will be zero if the curator makes changes to the vote, or if it is a _negative vote_. The potential payout for each curator is proportional to his weight with respect the sum of all weights. Finally, if the curator votes within the first 30 minutes of publication part of his earnings go to the author and it is proportional to the remaining time to complete the 30 minutes.

Taking $\Delta t$ as a value between 0 and 1 that represents the rule of 30 minutes, and $P_T$ as the total post payout, the payout for a curator can be calculated as:

# Consensus Algorithm

Consensus is the process by which a community comes to a universally recognized, unambiguous agreement on piece of information. There are many algorithms society has developed for reaching consensus about who owns what. Every government on earth is a primitive consensus algorithm whereby the population agrees to abide by a certain set of rules enshrined in a constitution. Governments establish courts, judges, and juries to interpret the subjective facts and render a final decision. Most of the time people abide by the decision even if it was wrong.
