🖥️ System Requirements

Host Environment

Category	Requirement
Architecture	x86_64 or arm64(recommend)
OS	Ubuntu 20.04+/Debian 11+ or Armbian (for arm64 hosts)
Storage	Minimum 16GB free space (50GB recommended for desktop builds)

Essential Tools

Install core dependencies with:

sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y \
    losetup \
    binfmt-support \
    fdisk \
    parted \
    dosfstools \
    wget \
    curl

debootstrap Installation

We recommend building from source for latest features:

# Install build dependencies
sudo apt install -y git make

# Clone repository
git clone https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debootstrap
cd debootstrap

# Build and install
sudo make install

# Verify installation
debootstrap --version

ℹ️ Package Manager Alternative (Not recommended for new distros):

sudo apt install debootstrap

Filesystem Tools

Required packages for image creation:

sudo apt install -y \
    e2fsprogs \    # For ext4 support
    xfsprogs \     # For XFS support
    btrfs-progs \  # For Btrfs support
    f2fs-tools     # For F2FS support

Cross-Architecture Support (x86 Only)

Enable ARM64 emulation:

sudo apt install -y qemu-user-static
sudo update-binfmts --enable qemu-aarch64

Kernel Handling

For custom kernel integration:

sudo apt install -y \
    u-boot-tools \
    device-tree-compiler \
    kmod

Kernel Preparation (Manual Steps)

1. Download Packages from kernel maintainers
2. Upload Files to corresponding directories:

# Example: Upload RK35xx kernel
cp boot-5.10.160-rk35xx*.tar.gz upstream/kernel/rk35xx/
cp dtb-rockchip-5.10.160-rk35xx*.tar.gz upstream/kernel/rk35xx/
cp modules-5.10.160-rk35xx*.tar.gz upstream/kernel/rk35xx/

📦 Required Packages per Kernel:

❗ Important:
Kernel versions must match between packages. Example valid set:

boot-5.10.160-rk35xx-flippy-2412a.tar.gz
dtb-rockchip-5.10.160-rk35xx-flippy-2412a.tar.gz
modules-5.10.160-rk35xx-flippy-2412a.tar.gz

🛠️ Build Instructions

1. Create Root File System

# Syntax: ./mkrootfs.sh <linux-flavor>
sudo ./mkrootfs.sh focal          # Ubuntu 20.04
sudo ./mkrootfs.sh jammy-xfce     # Ubuntu 22.04 with XFCE

🔍 Parameter Explanation
<linux-flavor> corresponds to .env files in env/linux/ directory. For example:

• focal → env/linux/focal.env
• jammy-xfce → env/linux/jammy-xfce.env

2. Generate Target Image

# Syntax: ./mkimg.sh <soc> <machine> <linux-flavor> [custom]
sudo ./mkimg.sh rk3568 h68k focal           # Basic usage
sudo ./mkimg.sh rk3588 h69k-max jammy-xfce boot256-ext4root  # With custom config
