Joseph Verron — Blog

Build Status

Introduction

A static blog for software craftsmanship and docs‑as‑code topics. Built with Jekyll and served via GitHub Pages.

Content is Markdown‑only; diagrams are rendered client‑side to remain compatible with GitHub Pages (no custom plugins required).

Key Features

  • Static Site Generation: Powered by Jekyll (via github-pages gem).

  • Docs-as-Code: Content written in Markdown under _posts/ and _drafts/.

  • Diagrams-as-Code: Client-side rendering of Mermaid, PlantUML, and Graphviz/DOT via Kroki.

  • Modern Design: Support for dark mode and print-friendly styles.

  • Maven Integration: Manage the blog using Maven for consistency with other projects.

Quick Start

The blog can be managed using either Maven or native Jekyll commands.

Using Maven

# Build the site
mvn compile -pl blog

# Serve locally with live reload
mvn -Pserve -pl blog

# Serve with drafts
mvn -Pserve-drafts -pl blog

# Clean generated files
mvn clean -pl blog

Using Native Jekyll

# Install dependencies
bundle install

# Serve locally with live reload
bundle exec jekyll serve --livereload

# Serve with drafts
bundle exec jekyll serve --livereload --drafts

Site will be available at http://127.0.0.1:4000

Project Structure

  • _posts/ — Published posts, filenames YYYY-MM-DD-slug.md

  • _drafts/ — Unpublished drafts

  • _data/ — Site data (authors, navigation, etc.)

  • _includes/ — Partial templates

  • _layouts/ — Page layouts

  • assets/ — CSS and static assets

  • _config.yml — Jekyll site configuration

Diagrams as Code

This site renders diagrams client‑side to stay compatible with GitHub Pages.
