## What is the difference between conformance and compliance? {#conformance}

WCAG 2 provides information on what is [required for conformance](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#conformance). Simply put, a web page will conform to WCAG 2 if it satisfies all the success criteria for the level claimed (Level A, AA, or AAA).

Compliance relates to meeting policies and regulations.

A policy or regulation may include all or parts of WCAG 2. This could mean that specific success criteria need not be satisfied in order to comply with the regulation. For example, alternative text may not be required for certain types of map.

This means that a web page could *comply* with a regulation but not *conform* with WCAG 2.
