Car Settings Window

Overview

This window allows the user to set the operating parameters for the car he/she is currently driving. These parameters include optimal brake temeperatures, optimal tyre temperatures and optimal tyre pressures. The window uses the unit of meassurement set by the user. These settings are saved and persist after application closes.

Window overview

The window is split into 2 main section - brakes and tyres.

Brakes Section

In the brakes section it is possible to specify:

  • Minimal Ideal Brake Temperature - start of the operating temperature the brakes should be kept at for maximum effectivness.
  • Maximum Ideal Brake Temperature - end of the operating temperature the brakes should be kept at for maximum effectivness.

Tyres Section

Below the brakes section you're able to select the tyre compound you would like to edit. The selected compound is editable on the right. There it is possible to specify the optimal working temperature and pressure. The World icon indicates a global compound. The difference between global and local compounds are specified below.

In tyres section the user is able to specify

  • Tyres ideal temperatures range - Temperature range at which the tyres should be kept for maximum effectivness.
  • Tyres ideal pressure range - Pressure range at which the tyres should be gept for maximum effectivnes..
  • Wear levels - Defines how the app should should color the tyre icon in the wheel status control, based on the tyre wear reported by the sim. There are three limits defined here. The range is in %, 0 - 100. Where 0 is brand new tyre, and 100 the maximum wear reportable by the sim.
    • No wear % - If the tyre wear is below this number, then the tyre will considered in perfect condition. The Icon will be green color below this number.
    • Low wear % - If the tyre wear is exactly at this number, then the tyre will be considered as with low wear. From the No Wear % to the Low wear % the tyre icon will get progressively more yellow.
    • Heavy wear % - If the tyre wear is exactly at this nymber, then the tyre will be considered heavy worn. From Low Wear % to Heavy Wear % the tyre icon will get progressively more red.

How tyres work

Single car can have different compounds associated. The application differenties between two groups of compounds global and local.

  • Global compounds - These are available only in certain sims (currently only in Assetto Corsa). In these sims all newly encounterd tyre compounds are inserted into the global compounds pool. Changes to these compounds affect all cars that use this compound, and don't have a local copy created by the user.

  • Local compounds - These tyre compounds are saved as part as the car profile. As such, changes only affects this single car. This allows to have multiple cars with the same compound name, but with different compound properties. In sims that work mainly with global compounds it is necessary to manualy create local copies using the appropriate button in the application. In other sims the application automatically inserts newly encourted tyres into the local tyres pool. It is important to note that the application only displays the tyre/car combo it has already seen.

Settings file

The settings file is, by default, located in \Documents\SecondMonitor\Settings\ where each sim played has each own config file.
