FAQ
Octi monitors and syncs information across your Android devices — battery levels, Wi-Fi status, installed apps, clipboard text. Install it on each device, choose a sync method, and get an overview of all your devices in one place.
It's designed for people who use multiple Android devices and want a unified dashboard without switching between them.
Devices don't connect directly to each other — they sync through a shared backend. You have two options:
- Google Drive: Just use the same Google account with Octi on each device. No extra setup needed.
- K-Server: Create an account on one device, then go to your sync settings and use "Link new device" to generate a QR code or text block for the second device.
See the Syncs page for full details.
Go to your sync settings, tap "View devices," then select the device you want to remove and delete it.
This works even if the device was factory reset or is no longer accessible.
Octi relies on background services to sync data and trigger notifications. Many Android manufacturers (Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc.) aggressively kill background apps to save battery.
To fix this:
- Open your device's battery settings and disable battery optimization for Octi.
- Exclude Octi from any "sleeping apps" or "deep sleeping apps" lists.
- Check dontkillmyapp.com for device-specific instructions — each manufacturer handles this differently.
The widget depends on background sync working correctly. If the widget is blank or stale:
- Follow the battery optimization steps from the previous answer.
- Try removing and re-adding the widget.
Starting with Android 13, apps can no longer read clipboard content set by other apps. This is an Android platform restriction.
Octi's clipboard module works by manually copying text into Octi's clipboard field, which then syncs that text to your other devices. It cannot automatically capture clipboard contents on Android 13+.
No. Octi syncs device status information (battery, apps, clipboard, Wi-Fi), not notifications.
For notification mirroring, consider alternatives like KDE Connect, Join, or Pushbullet.
Not currently. Octi monitors Android phones and tablets. Smartwatch/WearOS and Bluetooth device battery monitoring (headphones, etc.) are not yet supported.
Octi is currently Android-only. A multi-platform version is being considered but is not a near-term priority.
Core features are free and the app is open source (GPL v3). There is an optional upgrade available through Google Play that unlocks additional features. Pricing is set per-region by Google Play. You can also build from source for free.
No. Octi requires explicit setup on each device — it cannot be silently installed or activated remotely. All devices in a group must share the same sync account and credentials. If you didn't set it up yourself, simply uninstall it.
Octi does not share your location or personal data with third parties. It only syncs device status information between your own devices.
No. Octi is a monitoring tool. It shows what apps are installed on your other devices but cannot install, uninstall, or control them remotely.
Yes. The K-Server is open source and you can host your own instance. See the K-Server repository for setup instructions.
NextCloud is not directly supported as a sync backend.
