SEI_Lib 0.7 Macro_Economy_Segment_Calculator_Capabilities

bwyss edited this page Nov 25, 2010 · 6 revisions

Variables from the social well-being and the capabilities sub-components will feed back to the Risk Module, as this component will provide initial values for variables of interests (such as casualties, injuries, loss of capital stock from earthquakes) as inputs to the SEIM in period 't', and this module wool yield back estimated values of these and other variables for 'n' periods thereafter (t+1---t+n).

The macro economy segment calculator capabilities will analyze demographic, labor force and human capital dynamics in the analyzed system (country, supra-national or sub-national level). It is intended to provide the essential information of population structure, distribution, as well as the status and skills of the economically active population, which will provide a basis for the analysis of growth potential and output. It will also yield inputs for the Seismic Risk Module, as fatalities, injuries and vulnerability to earthquakes are linked to the spatial and income distribution of population and their characteristics. In turn, this sub-component will use as inputs the information from Risk and Hazard modules on fatalities, probability of events and intensity to ascertain changes in population linked to seismic activity. It will also use information on vulnerability and exposure to help model migration patterns of population.
