Description
A custom scene based on the official "Deep Space" template (dark blue galaxy background with water ripple, pulse, and god rays effects layered via bindings) renders as an almost completely flat dark-navy background — none of the scene's artwork or effects are visible. Only very faint diagonal seam lines are visible, which look like render-tile boundaries rather than actual scene content.
Steps to reproduce
- Create/open a scene based on the "Deep Space" official Wallpaper Engine template (uses
materials/galaxy_2_base.*, background/flowmask replacement, water ripple).
- Configure the scene with the
pulse and godrays post effects layered on top of the water/background layer.
- Set it as the active wallpaper via the KDE plugin.
Observed on 2026-08-07 while bisecting which effect combination was at fault: I tested every combination in isolation (only godrays, only pulse, only waterripple, each pair, none of them, and "complete") — all with a custom scheme color bound to the system theme. Screenshot attached below from that session, showing the blank-background result.
Expected
The scene renders the background art with the enabled effects (water reflection / pulse / god rays).
Actual
Scene shows a flat dark background, no visible art or effect.
Environment
- waywallen: v0.3.1 at time of testing (currently updated to v0.3.3)
- open-wallpaper-engine plugin: v0.2.2 at time of testing (currently updated to v0.2.3 — not yet re-tested against this build)
- OS: CachyOS (Arch Linux), KDE Plasma 6, Wayland
Note
I no longer have the exact project files from that test session (deleted since), so I can't pin down which single effect/setting triggers it — only that the end result across most combinations was a blank-looking scene. Happy to redo the bisection against the current plugin version if that would help narrow it down.
