Xtra Care SkillHub is a community-driven open source hub for medical and healthcare skills, built around the real-world needs of cancer patients and guided by SDM (Shared Decision-Making).

Our goal is to create an open and sustainable collaborative infrastructure where patients, caregivers, clinicians, developers, researchers, and public-interest contributors can work together to build, maintain, and improve practical medical skills, tools, knowledge modules, and workflows.

Why we are building this

Cancer patients and families often face fragmented information, difficult decisions, and limited access to trustworthy support tools.
We want to build an open project that is truly patient-centered, public-interest driven, and community maintained.

Creating public-interest value for cancer patients is one of the core missions of this project.

We believe better shared decision-making requires more than principles. It also needs:

  • clearer information structures
  • more trustworthy knowledge support
  • more usable tools and workflows
  • long-term collaboration across medicine, technology, and community

Who we welcome

We welcome contributors from different backgrounds, especially:

1. People who have been through it

Patients, caregivers, family members, and builders with lived experience in healthcare decision-making and treatment journeys.
Your experience is one of the most valuable foundations of this project.

2. Builders in medical and health technology

Including clinician-builders, medical informatics practitioners, medical researchers, health AI developers, designers, and interdisciplinary collaborators.

3. Undergraduate and graduate students

We especially welcome students interested in medicine, AI, open source, design, data, and public-interest technology.
We believe young builders can do more than participate — they can help create real change.

4. Global youth communities

We warmly welcome youth from around the world to join, collaborate, experiment, and build together.
This project is intended to grow into a multilingual and globally collaborative community.

What we hope to build together

This hub may include:

  • patient-facing medical skills and support tools
  • SDM-oriented decision support modules and workflows
  • multilingual healthcare content and reusable knowledge components
  • open collaboration frameworks for healthcare AI and medical technology
  • documentation, evaluation, and deployment approaches for real clinical and community use

Types of collaboration we welcome

We welcome participation from a broad range of contributor types and ecosystems, including:

  • open source communities
  • model and agent / skill ecosystems
  • CLI and developer tool ecosystems
  • medical institutions and hospital innovation teams
  • academic and student communities
  • nonprofit and public-interest collaborators
  • international and multilingual communities

Our direction

This project is meant to grow as a long-term open source community.
We hope it can become a public SkillHub that connects patient needs, medical knowledge, AI capabilities, and open collaboration.

If you care about patient impact, public-interest technology, medical AI, or open collaboration, you are welcome here.

Let’s build something that can create real change.
