  • This mini-update of HCM is only required for the WinStore/Xbox version of the game. Steam version of the game will work fine on HCM 3.1.9.

Note:

  • A bug in HCM versions 3.1.3 through 3.1.7 will cause them to 100% crash on the newest MCC patch.
  • Only Halo 1 and Halo3: ODST saves are backwards-compatible with the previous patch.

Change Log:

  • Added limited Save Management support for Project Cartographer. This is using an oldschool HCM2 style external GUI, not internal injection. Make sure you disable the in-game anti-cheat or you risk getting banned from online play! (press "Home" key -> Host & Campaign Settings -> uncheck "Anti-Cheat". You will need to re-disable this every match.)
  • Added limited Save Management support for Halo Reach on MCC version 1.2904.0.0 (commonly used in speedruns).
  • Fix some UI/clipboard bugs with "Edit View Subpixel".
  • Fixed HCMExternal not remembering your last selected Game/Folder.
  • HCMExternal: You can now drag checkpoints to a separate folder in the save folder tree window to move them.
  • Now throws an error if you dump a checkpoint to a filename that already exists (instead of overwritting).
  • Nerdy code stuff:
    • Added MIT license to project. Added THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES file.
    • Now using gitmodules for projects I couldn't add through vcpkg (safetyhook, type_safe).
    • Significantly refactored and cleaned up HCMExternal code.

  • Log files & Crash Dumps now go into the "Logs" subfolder.
  • Fix for hotkey settings not saving properly (note: other kinds of settings sometimes still don't save).
  • Added "Force Mission Restart" feature.
  • Nerdy code stuff:
    • Safetyhook updated to 0.4.1 (let's me access XMM registers in hooks)
    • Now uses vcpkg manifests (makes building much much easier)

Change Log:

  • No longer includes .NET 7.0 in the binary - this significantly reduces file size and should help with Defender false positives, though if you somehow don't have .NET installed you'll have to go get it.
  • The check for newer HCM versions is now performed once HCM connects to MCC instead of as soon as you start up HCM. Again, should help with Defender.
  • Cleaned up some code: Mostly relating to internal pointer data parsing (reading the xml file that describes MCC's memory layout).
    • Parsing begins with a free function instead of needing an object. Reduced named instantiator functions from 12 to 3 using templates (though they're still implemented separately via specialisation). Instantiation no longer emplaces into the dataKeyMap, instead it just returns the created object so it can be emplaced separately.

Change Log:

  • Reworked how HCM attaches to MCC in attempt to stop Windows Defender nuking it all the damn time. Let me know if a) it continues to be nuked for you or b) HCM doesn't properly attach to MCC for you anymore.
  • Fix for hotkey settings not saving if you cleared a hotkey without assigning a new button to it.
  • Fixed bug where checkpoints made on the first gametick would show "???" for their IGT.
  • Trigger Overlay: Added option for partial match of trigger filter string.

  • Added "Free Camera" support for Halo Reach and Halo 4 (that's all games now!).
  • Added "Ability (/Sprint) Meter" feature for Halo Reach and Halo 4.
  • HCM now waits until MCC is past its booting screen before attempting injection.
  • Added 3D render range option (for Trigger Overlay etc).
  • Added "Sound Gain Adjuster" feature for Halo 1, letting you adjust the volume of certain sound categories..
  • Added "Disable Fog" feature for all games.
  • Fixed hotkey for FreeCams "teleport to camera" and "game input disable" functions being swapped.
  • Added FreeCam option to lower rotation sensitivity when at low FOVs.
  • Added FreeCam option to lower FOV sensitivity at low and high FOVs.
  • Added FreeCam option to teleport player BEHIND the camera instead of directly on top of it.
  • Added option to change background colour of the OOB void for Halo 3.
  • Miscellaneous code refactoring to improve stability, particularly for stuff like the Trigger Overlay and Advance Ticks etc.

Change Log:

  • Added "Free Camera" support for Halo 3 and ODST.
  • Fixed OBS bypass always crashing (still an experimental feature though).
  • Fixed Hotkey Rebinding glitch with command console.
  • Cleaned up some other Hotkey Rebinding code to improve stability.
  • You can now open the command console by clicking the button instead of only by hotkey.
  • Fixed Free Camera issue where diagonal movements would move faster than normal ones.
  • Free Camera "Increase/Decrease Translation Speed" now only activates if Free Camera is enabled.
  • Added some basic Halo debug functionality (under Debug subheading).

Known Issues

  • Season 7 and Season 8 only have support for basic save management (checkpoint, revert, inject, dump etc) features. Except for Halo 2 Season 7 which has some extra support.
  • Game may freeze for a couple seconds when HCM shuts down, which has reportedly caused issues with OBS for some people.
  • Windows Defender sometimes flags HCM. This is probably because HCM uses DLL injection to insert its code into the game process, which is something real viruses use to inject malicious code into your OS. Not much I can do to fix this unfortunately.
  • Folder-file management system of HCMExternal sometimes gets messed up if you move/delete save folders.
  • Sometimes MCC freezes or crashes when you close HCM. Please send me your crash-dump files if one gets generated when this happens.
  • Turning on speedhack sometimes randomly crashes MCC.
