Currently, we hardly ever use mock_hardware during development. Thus, we don't really know the state of what is working there. #737 showed an incompatibility we didn't fully have on our agenda. We knew it would get deprecated since a while, but it never got high enough on our priority list.

We should add CI tests using mock_hardware to make sure the expected functionality is actually there.
