User Contributed Audio

Overview:

This page describes how users with the roles Editor or Contributor can record and publish audio on the DAILP site.

Document Audio

Users with the roles Editor or Contributor have the ability to record document audio on the DAILP Translation Interface (TI) using the User-contributed Audio feature. The User-contributed Audio feature is located on the pages in the collection. On the top of the page is where an Editor or Contributor can play and download existing audio made by other users with the same roles. This is also where users can record their audio using the ‘Start recording’ button. Users need to make sure to press the allow button for DAILP to use their microphones.

User-contributed Audio

After ending the recording of their audio using the ‘Stop recording’ button, an Editor or Contributor can play back their recording, delete their recording, or save their recording.

To publish the audio under the User-contributed Audio feature, an Editor or Contributor just needs to select the checkbox under ‘Show to readers?’ Then the audio is public for everyone to see.

Word Audio

Editors or Contributors also have the ability to record audio for individual word translation using DAILP’s Word Audio feature. The Word Audio feature is located on the translation pages in the collection. To access the feature users must select the information button on the right of a specific word, which opens the Wordpane. On the Wordpane, Editors or Contributors must select the Edit button to see the ‘Audio’ and the ‘Record Audio’ sections. The ‘Audio’ section is to play existing audio and the ‘Record Audio’ section is where users can record their audio of the specific word using the ‘Start recording’ button. Once the recording is completed using the ‘Stop recording’ button, users can play their audio, save their audio recording or delete their audio recording. Users can also publish their audio by selecting the checkbox under ‘Show to readers?’

For Example: If an Editor or Contributor goes to the translation page for “Story of Millie Pigeon (1964)” in our digital collection, they have to first scroll down and find a specific syllabary word. For instance if the user chooses the Cherokee word ᎤᏥᎢ (‘her mother’), they would select the word’s icon to open the Wordpane. The Wordpane is where the user can play existing audio, record their own audio to pronounce ᎤᏥᎢ, and publish their created audio for everyone to see.
